Our Services

Chappaqua, New Comprehensive Speech and/or Language Evaluations

Most speech evaluations, including a brief assessment of oral motor and feeding skills, are performed within a single 45-minute session. We follow that evaluation session with a parent consultation to discuss the results of our evaluation. We provide you with a written report as requested, and a treatment plan if therapy has been recommended.

A Language Evaluation requires several sessions of assessment. We use both informal and formalized procedures to assess your child's language skills, and we look to determine your child's capabilities as well as their needs. Your input on our intake form is especially helpful in aiding us in our understanding of your child's communication skills.

Our experience and integrity assure that your child's speech and language needs will be carefully assessed.

Individual Speech Therapy Sessions

When therapy is recommended or requested for remediation of speech delay, we will see children once or twice weekly for 30 minute sessions. For children who have had enduring once or twice weekly speech therapy but have not made substantial progress, we now also offer intensive treatment plans - seeing a child for 2 weeks of Monday - Friday 30 minute sessions, and then follow through with less intensive treatment.

We believe that the best way to improve speech is through targeted reinforcement of desired patterns, and that involves repetitive practice! We utilize drill to establish new oral motor and speech patterns, and then generalize those patterns into spontaneous speech with a carefully scaffolded program. Always, we search out your child's capabilities, and build upon success!

Speech therapy involves work. For our younger children, that work is couched within a play paradigm that keeps children happily engaged during our sessions. By providing parents with information about our goals, and brief homework drills to reinforce learning, we are able to expedite your child's progress. Our older children are often eager to make the changes in their speech that brings them to therapy. Their sessions tend to be direct and to the point, with simple games used to keep them happily engaged. Again, parent reinforcement of session goals is facilitative to generalization of the skills acquired during our sessions.

Individual Language Therapy Sessions:

Language therapy is provided with either once or preferably twice/weekly 45 minute sessions. Our intervention goals are based on your child's specific areas of need - in language understanding/production, vocabulary development, phonological (speech sound) processing, grammatical skills, and/or language use /social skills. For younger children, our activities involve language through play, For older children, we use school work as a basis for working through targeted areas of need.

As parents are an integral part of facilitating a child's language development, on an ongoing basis we take care to discuss with you your concerns and observations, and to share with you our perceptions and current goals.

"Sharon, we will never forget your miraculous work, thoughtfulness and love for our son. We'll always hold an extra special place for you in our hearts. I value tremendously the connection that Andrew and I made with you! "
